In some cases, home or business owners realize that there is an issue with their home or building, but they are not exactly sure what is causing the problem. This is where Team Engineering can help. In a nutshell, we help people to understand their buildings by discovering what is wrong and suggesting how it can be improved or repaired. Engineering consultations are like an engineered home inspection – except with a specific problem in focus.
With this service, which is also sometimes called “forensic engineering,” an engineer’s opinion is valuable to anyone wishing to purchase a building or home as well as insurance companies, attorneys, realtors and lenders who need to identify the cause of a structural problem.
Forensics work backwards.
When investigating an incident of structural failure, we always start “at the scene of the crime” and work backwards to find the root cause. Thanks to our years of experience in engineering inspection and design, it does not typically take us very long to get to the bottom of the problem. After inspecting and evaluating the defect or defects in a home or building, we will then determine if the issue is relatively minor or significant, as well as what is causing it to happen in the first place. Once this is determined, we can then work with the client to correct the situation.
Our engineers can also provide Engineered Design Services to map out an architectural and/or structural solution to suggested repairs – which can range from a simple conceptual sketch to a highly detailed drawing. In order to help keep costs at a minimum, we can also prioritize any needed repair and upgrades with safety considerations and the impact to other building systems in mind. Because we understand that repairing building issues can sometimes be a very costly endeavor, we offer a flexible scope that will meet our client’s needs and budgets.
In many cases, home inspectors and contractors will also provide this service to clients. However, these professionals are not building inspection engineers who have a comprehensive understanding of engineering principals. Team Engineering has evaluated thousands of buildings over the years and has solved the mysteries of their hidden problems. Although we do not make the design changes ourselves – as this helps us to remain unbiased in our engineering consultation work – we can also provide a cost estimate for implementing the suggested repair.
